Section 11.43 (h-1) Texas Property Tax Code, passed by the 88th Legislature and made Effective 9-1-2023, now requires each residential property with a homestead exemption be confirmed by each county appraisal district that the property still qualifies for the homestead exemption once every 5 years.
Homestead Audit Letters will be mailed out in batches throughout the 2024 calendar year. The remaining properties will be notified by areas throughout the next five years. No action is necessary if the property is located outside the scheduled areas for each year unless specifically requested by the Chief Appraiser.
By replying to this letter, with a copy of the Residents VALID Texas Driver’s License or Texas State ID, the homestead exemption will be verified by our Exemption Department. The address on the ID MUST match the physical address of the residence that is being homesteaded.
No response to the initial letter will generate a certified letter informing you of the cancellation process of the homestead exemption. If you are not scheduled for the review, filing a new application does not alter the review process! Your homestead exemption will still be reviewed per our homestead exemption cycle above.
